Face masks, face covers, fabric masks, cloth masks what ever you are calling them, they are sure becoming a big part of our lives now with the Covid-19 pandemic. In Asia people have been wearing facial masks out in public for decades and it has become the norm in those countries to wear a mask in public. The CDC recommends wearing a two layer cloth face covering in all public settings where social distancing isn’t possible. Children under 2 years old, anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated or unable to remove the mask without assistance shouldn’t wear a mask. The more people wear masks the more accepted mask wear becomes. “If everybody has to wear a mask, there’s no stigma,” said Shan Soe-Lin, a lecturer at the Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. With that said, let’s talk about how to style your facial mask to look well put together and the dos and don’t of handling one. You want to find a mask that you like that covers your nose, mouth, fits snugly, and that is comfortable against your face. You want one that will need no adjusting once on and you can wear for an hour while shopping or for an extended period of time. Since the mask is so close to your skin opt for one that complements your skin tone. Fair skin: Rich, vibrant colors will contrast with your skin. *Avoid pastels which will make you look washed out. Medium skin: Bright and jewelry tones will stand out against your skin color. *Avoid brown and grays which can make you skin look dull. Olive skin: Soft and rich colors will complement your skin undertones. *Avoid yellow which will have a tendency of making you look yellowish. Dark skin: Bright and pastels shade work best, *Avoid brown tones that will blend with your skin. STYLE TIP: Opt for a neutral color mask to be able to pair it with everything in your closet. Rock any hat with a mask! If you have a mask with ear loops any hats works. When wearing a mask with ties opt for a hat that molds to the head like a beanie or baseball cap, a fedora or sunhat won’t work with the ties unless you place your hat over your mask ties. Wear your hair any way you want for a mask with elastic over the ear. Pull your hair back for a mask with ties to prevent pulling your hair and getting it tangled on the ties. When outside pair your mask with a great pair of sunglasses. STYLE TIP: Make sure your mask is under your eyewear to prevent them from fogging up. With half of your face covered draw attention to your eyes. Experiment with eye make-up to accentuate your eyes. I love dangly and big earrings but it makes it difficult to put on your mask over your ears. I put on my mask first them my earrings so they don't get tangled. Stud earnings work best for over the ear masks. We have to cover our nose and mouth when out in public why not make it fun! Show your personality with a fun print or design to keep it playful.
