Face masks, face covers, fabric masks, cloth masks what ever you are calling them, they are sure becoming a big part of our lives now with the Covid-19 pandemic. In Asia people have been wearing facial masks out in public for decades and it has become the norm in those countries to wear a mask in public. The CDC recommends wearing a two layer cloth face covering in all public settings where social distancing isn’t possible. Children under 2 years old, anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated or unable to remove the mask without assistance shouldn’t wear a mask. The more people wear masks the more accepted mask wear becomes. “If everybody has to wear a mask, there’s no stigma,” said Shan Soe-Lin, a lecturer at the Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. With that said, let’s talk about how to style your facial mask to look well put together and the dos and don’t of handling one. You want to find a mask that you like that covers your nose, mouth, fits snugly, and that is comfortable against your face. You want one that will need no adjusting once on and you can wear for an hour while shopping or for an extended period of time. Since the mask is so close to your skin opt for one that complements your skin tone. Fair skin: Rich, vibrant colors will contrast with your skin. *Avoid pastels which will make you look washed out. Medium skin: Bright and jewelry tones will stand out against your skin color. *Avoid brown and grays which can make you skin look dull. Olive skin: Soft and rich colors will complement your skin undertones. *Avoid yellow which will have a tendency of making you look yellowish. Dark skin: Bright and pastels shade work best, *Avoid brown tones that will blend with your skin. STYLE TIP: Opt for a neutral color mask to be able to pair it with everything in your closet. Rock any hat with a mask! If you have a mask with ear loops any hats works. When wearing a mask with ties opt for a hat that molds to the head like a beanie or baseball cap, a fedora or sunhat won’t work with the ties unless you place your hat over your mask ties. Wear your hair any way you want for a mask with elastic over the ear. Pull your hair back for a mask with ties to prevent pulling your hair and getting it tangled on the ties. When outside pair your mask with a great pair of sunglasses. STYLE TIP: Make sure your mask is under your eyewear to prevent them from fogging up. With half of your face covered draw attention to your eyes. Experiment with eye make-up to accentuate your eyes. I love dangly and big earrings but it makes it difficult to put on your mask over your ears. I put on my mask first them my earrings so they don't get tangled. Stud earnings work best for over the ear masks. We have to cover our nose and mouth when out in public why not make it fun! Show your personality with a fun print or design to keep it playful. Has holiday shopping got you stressed out? Are you ready to strangle the next person who tells you they've already done all of their Christmas shopping? Rest assured, you are not alone. I know the holidays stress people out for many reasons. The family is getting together, and you might be seeing relatives you haven’t seen in months, or even years. Then there’s the shopping... You don’t have a clue what to buy for those on your shopping list. You want to wow them, and give them something they will like and use. Here's some stocking-stuffer and gift suggestions for both him and her: Stocking StuffersBuying stocking stuffers is a great opportunity to introduce someone to a new product, by filling their stocking with new-to-them daily essentials. It can be a good moment for a quirky, iconic item. It's also a great way to surprise a loved one with something small and expensive, like a classic pair of stud earrings. For her:For Him:The GiftsI really enjoy giving gifts to people, and nail it almost every time. Let me tell you how I gift, and you might learn a new trick or two: I pay attention to what people around me use, and what they are into. I notice what they're missing to make their lives a little better. I pay attention when someone mentions something they would like to have. Keep these things in mind when making a gift shopping list or looking for a special gift: 1. Take the person's occupation in consideration. Do they work in an office and drink coffee all day? Maybe get them a cool something that will keep their coffee warm for a long time, like my favorite Zojirushi thermos. 2. Think about the giftee’s lifestyle. Are they a workaholic? Maybe they would like something to help them unwind, like a box set of their favorite tv show or movie trilogy, or a 3 month subscription to a wine or whiskey club. Maybe they work on their feet all day and would like a foot massager, comfy slippers, or a better pair of comfortable shoes. Does the person have hobbies? If they like to make crafts, buy them something that will help keep their hobby organized, or a tool they might like to have but haven't bought for themselves. Are they avid gym goers? They might appreciate a massage to help relax sore muscles. Workout gear like gym bags, sweat towels or foam rollers are always well appreciated gifts. Hope that was helpful, those are some things I take into consideration when giving a present to someone. If you are still in limbo as to what to get that person on your list, here are some more ideas that are sure to be winners with everyone on your list. These even make great Secret Santa gifts! 😉 For Her:With gifts, I try not to buy trendy items unless I know the person is into that kind of thing. For the his and her gift ideas I've stayed with classic items that are useful. In some cases a person might not think of buying a luxury item, like a wool or cashmere sweater, for themselves, and you can broaden their horizons with a well-considered gift. For Him:I hope you like the gifts ideas I shared with you! Please leave a comment below if you appreciated the information, found it helpful, or have an idea to add. Thanksgiving is fun for some and stressful for others. Whether you’re going to a family get together, meeting your significant other’s family, or having fun at a Friendsgiving party, you're going to want to feel comfortable, stylish, and well-put together. If your clothes are too tight it might make you feel like a stuffed turkey. You want your clothes to be roomy and stretchy, not tight and constraining. You want to be able to have seconds because you've been starving yourself all week for this occasion, or another slice of that pie your auntie made. Let me give you some tips on what to wear so you're feeling more like yourself, and enjoy the festivities! Choose a top that skims the body instead of being too tight. You want to be comfortable enough to enjoy the moment. If you're planning on wearing a dress go for something flowy like an A-line, shift or empire dress. A sheath dress will work, but if you’re worried about showing a little food baby, pair it with a blazer or a cardigan to camouflage what you ate. Leave room to grow, wear a skirt or pant with an elastic waistband. It will give you room to taste every dish on the menu. Think relaxed and flowy. Pair them with tights if it's chilly, or go bare-legged if the temps are higher. Want to wear jeans? Go with a relaxed fit jean and make sure it's not too tight at the waist. You want to be comfortable sitting around in your food coma, enjoying great company and laughs. Other Style Tips:
- Wearing print will camouflage any spills that land on your clothes. - Select Fall and Holiday colors that are in season. - Pair simple pieces with fun accessories, like a statement necklace. - Spice up an outfit with a tall boot or fun color shoe. I hope you have grown inspired for any Thanksgiving parties you may attend this year, and that any of your what-to-wear concerns have been put at ease.
