My legs are pale after the winter and I feel self-conscious wearing shorts shorter than a 5-inch inseam because my inner thighs are not in the best shape to show off. I also have midsection issues but if I have found shorts that make me feel confident so can you! Just like other things it takes time and lots of trying on just like jeans shopping but be patient and don't settle for ok look for perfection. You want to be able to wear the shorts more than one time. Use the guideline below when you are shopping for shorts to give you a better idea of a proper fit for your body type. Short GuidelinesDaisy duke and short shorts are for those that have great legs and aren't afraid to show them. They typically have a 3.5"-5" inseam. If you are petite, 5'4" and under with long slim legs this is a perfect length to help elongate your legs. If you are on the curvy side look for a high waisted shorts with a wider leg opening. Dress them up: You can pair them with stockings for a more chic look and wear them during the spring and fall with short or tall boots. Tights and stocking also help conceal and hide those leg imperfections like varicose veins and scars. Wearing heels and wedges helps to give you that long leg look. Regular shorts typically have a 7 to 8 inch inseam and it's a great length that flatters almost every body type and height. Dress up ideas: With high-waisted shorts tuck in your top and add a thin belt or tie your shirt up. Layer on an open cardigan or a denim vest to complete your look and make it look polished. Denim jean shorts, you can buy them with the hem unfinished, rolled, folded or you can even take an old pair of jeans and cut them to your desired length, which is what I do with my jean shorts. Denim jeans come in all sorts of rises just like regular jeans, find a cut that flatters your body. Dress up ideas: You can dress up denim jeans by pairing it with a blazer, a simple tee, add a statement necklace and some heels or a pair of cool flats. Try it with a nice button down blouse with a half tuck. Bermuda shorts are a mid-length short with an 8-10" inseam which lay 1 to 2 inches above the knee. They are slightly fitted with a straight up and down cut. Perfect for those with curvy hips and for those who are self-conscious about cellulite and their upper thigh area. Dress up ideas: I personally love this length and I like to dress my Bermuda shorts up or down depending on my mood and what I'm doing. Try them for a casual Friday at the office with a blazer and flats or for a girl's night out with heels and a statement necklace. Culottes, gauchos, capris, and pedal-pushers are a great choice for those that don't like showing their knees. I like to wear culottes and gauchos year around personally. Dress them up: In the winter I pair my culottes or gauchos with ankle boots, I take a classy chic approach with these shorts. I pair them with a simple tee or an interesting blouse, statement jewelry, I'll even add on a blazer or vest to complete my outfit to make it look polished. Depending on what my day entails I'll finish the whole look with sandals, flats or heels. If you are going for a more business approach with this look, I would consider layering on that blazer and a closed toe shoe like a ballet flat or heels. Tips on shorts for every body type• If your petite aim for a shorter shorts to give you more height. Give the illusion of longer legs and pair it with a nude heel or shoe. • For the tall ladies with slim legs, any shorts style will look flattering on you. This style will give an illusion of an elongated mid-torso, high waisted shorts can make your torso look shorter. • Long torsos look for high waisted shorts to help shorten your torso and tuck-in your top. • Midsection and tummy issues flat front shorts are your best friends. Avoid all the bulk of pleats and knots and anything that will add bulk to the front mid-section. Consider trying on a pair of shorts with a thick waistband and thicker fabrics to help hold you in, a side zipper short will work well too. • For narrow hips or those with no curves, look for front pocket details, embellishments, pleats, flowy or flare leg opening, built-in belts that tie into a bow or knot. Bubble or balloon shorts work great for this body type. • For those with full bottoms and thick thighs look for shorts with a wide leg opening and a high waist. A-line shorts work best for this body type, Bermuda shorts also work well too. Avoid shorts that cut you off at the widest part of the leg and shorts that add volume to the bottom half of your body like pockets and pleats. • Not sure about a length opt for a flat front mid-length shorts. This length is universal and flattering on almost every body type. • Make sure to balance your shorts with a top that stops at the waist or just below the waist. You don't want to wear short shorts with an oversized top that will make you look like you are not wearing anything underneath.
